John Craig Conferred The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon
On November 25, Mr. John Craig of Toronto was conferred the The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon, at a special ceremony held at the official residence of the Consul-General Eiji Yamamoto of Japan. Mr. Craig is an internationally renowned lawyer who has supported the activities of Japanese businesses in Ontario.

Since 1989, he has acted as Counsel to the Japan Society, and presently serves as its Chair. Since 2000, he has also sat as Vice-Chair of the Sakura Committee. Through such activities, he has contributed greatly toward the development of further relations between Japan and Canada. Mr. Craig, in response to the congratulatory remarks by Mr. Yamamoto, said he has attained this honour due to the support of his friends and family, and that he shares it with them. He expressed his appreciation by naming each attending guests, and relating an anecdote about them.

In attendance were such dignitaries as Justice James MacPherson of the Ontario Court of Appeal and Japan Society President Ben Cipriettti. A total of 50 guests joined in the celebration, including representatives from the Japanese business community, the legal profession, the Japanese media and Mr. Craig’s family.
