Consul General of Japan Eiji Yamamoto on Sept. 26 visited Collingwood, Ontario, which enjoys a sister-city relationship with the municipality of Katano in Japan’s Osaka Prefecture. The Consul General met with Collingwood Mayor Sandra Cooper and exchange views on topics ranging from sister-city activities to Collingwood’s business environment and Japan-Canada relations. Mayor Cooper also took the Consul General on a tour of Collingwood, which is located approximately 150 kilometers north of Toronto on the coast of the Georgian Bay. The picturesque area is rich in tourist attractions such as Blue Mountain and Wasaga Beach, and the city is also devoting considerable effort in its industries such as breweries and distilleries. Collingwood's relationship with Katano has a history of over 30 years, and is still thriving today through such activities as student exchanges. A number of students are expected to visit from Katano in 2014.
