Consul-General Eiji Yamamoto visited the town of Collingwood on July 15, and participated in a celebratory event commemorating the sister-city relationship the municipality enjoys with Katano, Japan. Collingwood is a resort town on the coast of Lake Huron about 150 km north of Ontario. It has been maintaining a successful twinning program with Katano since 1981.
Consul-General Yamaoto was welcomed at the commemorative event by Collingwood Mayor Sandra Cooper, Ms. Keiko Yoden-Kuepfer, the Goodwill Envoy of the local Katano International Friendship Association, three high school students who would be visiting Japan this summer and many other local citizens. Mayor Cooper gave an explanation to Mr. Yamamoto on the fruitful exchange between Collingwood and Katano which spans over 30 years, as well as on Collingwood’s resort tourism industry which makes full use of the region’s scenic beauty.
Consul-General Yamamoto expressed his appreciation for the long, thriving exchange between Collingwood and Katano, and extended his well-wishes to the students going to Japan.
The Consulate-General of Japan will continue to support regional twinning activities.
