Event Commemorates Direct Flights Between Toronto and Haneda Airport
To commemorate the new direct flight between Toronto and Tokyo’s Haneda Airport — commencing in July of this year — an event to promote trade and investment to Japan was held at the official residence of Consul General of Japan Eiji Yamamoto on May 7. In attendance were local experts and business leaders.
After welcoming remarks by the Consul General, Mr. Hitoshi Oishi, Executive Director of JETRO (Japan External Trade Organization) Toronto, gave an explanation of the Japanese economy as well as on JETRO’s efforts to attract investment. He particularly emphasised how Canadian businesses should invest in Japan. Airline companies also gave an overview of the Toronto-Haneda flight, while an outdoor tour company commented on the high quality of Japanese outdoor goods. A fisheries company also provided an explanation on Japanese fisheries products, and participants were seen listening intently.
The official residence of the Consul General was adorned with festive carp streamers. Panels and pamphlets promoted regional areas of Japan, and some were put on display also by JETRO and participating airline companies. Exhibited as well were the aforementioned outdoor goods and fisheries products. Japanese sake was also provided, receiving favourable reviews.
The new flight is the only daily flight to Haneda from North America. Because it will dramatically increase the convenience of flying from the northeastern regions of North America to various parts of Japan, it is expected to contribute not only to tourism but various aspects of Japan-Canada business relations. It is hoped the flight will further strengthen economic relations between the two countries.
