Japan Information Centre Staff

Promote Japan at Home and Around Ontario

The staff of the Japan Information Centre (JIC) kept busy during the autumn season promoting Japanese culture, as well as the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme, both on their own premises as well as at the invitation of other institutions.

On Nov. 5, JET Programme Coordinator Marcia Iwasaki (pictured right) and Senior Programme Coordinator Rui Umezawa visited Huron University College at the University of Western Ontario to provide information on Japan and JET. Students were able to obtain brochures and information on Japan, its culture and its tourist sites, as well as on JET, which was of great interest to those who were seriously considering applying for the program.

On Nov. 7 and 8, the Japan Information Centre opened its doors to participate in the Road to Asia festival at the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre. On Nov. 7, the Origami Society of Toronto generously provided their time to give a workshop on this popular Japanese art in the Japan Information Centre's library.

On the second day of the festival, Mr. Umezawa gave two PowerPoint presentations: one on the relevance of traditional Japanese culture today and the other on the relationship between Japanese culture and robots.

The first presentation was also presented at the St. Louis Adult Learning Centre in Kitchener, where 60 high school and adult students welcomed Mr. Umezawa and Consul Masaya Otsuka, the Director of the Japan Information Centre (pictured below, far right).
